With several degrees in Architecture I am a lifetime student of design and building.
I named my woodworking business The Vitruvian Woodshop because of the design virtues first put forth by the ancient Roman Architect Vitruvius.

When posed with the question “…how do you determine whether something is good…”, Vitruvius coined his three virtues:

Firmitas - meaning Strong and Durable
Utilitas - meaning Functional and Useful
Venustas - meaning Simple Organic Beauty

Whenever I am designing and building anything, I try to keep these virtues in mind.
